Many bright vintage prints- classic patchwork design. This pattern is a Wheel-type pattern. Size - 67" x 85". Identification of The Whirling Pinwheel can be attributed to the 22 September, 1943 edition of The Kansas City Star. This quilt consists of 63 blocks, each 9-3/4" x 9-3/4".
Each block has a circle in the center & 8 curved pieces radiating from the circle. All of the center circles are pink. All of the curved pieces are vintage prints.
Many are floral- some are plaids or polka dots. Each block has a cream background.
Machine-stitched 1 binding on all 4 sides. Backing - cream w/a turquoise & burgundy paisley print.
The backing was brought up over the edges of the quilt to form the binding. A cream cotton flannel blanket was used for the batting. The Whirling Pinwheel is a tied quilt. There is no actual quilting.
It is tied at regular intervals w/blue wool yarn. Condition - this quilt has 63 blocks. 14 of the 63 have some damage - primarily light scattered spots & open seams.
